Laurel River Description

The Laurel River is a major tributary to the Cumberland River encompassing about 290 square miles in southeastern Kentucky. The stream flows generally southwest through the Cumberland Plateau before entering the rugged Pottsville Escarpment region. Major tributaries include Lynn Camp Creek, Little Laurel River, Craig Creek and Robinson Creek. The stream has been impounded to form the 5,600 acre Laurel River Lake, which along with two smaller reservoirs serve as important public drinking water sources for the region.

Laurel River Lake, located west of Corbin, Kentucky, in the USA, is an reservoir built in 1977 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the Laurel River, a tributary of the Cumberland River, in the Daniel Boone National Forest. The lake covers parts of Laurel and Whitley counties.[1]
